But, when it comes to shopping around for a cremation provider, do you know what it is you really want or need?

Chances are, the answer is “no”, simply because you aren’t familiar with what a cremation provider does. After all, how many times have you been faced with this decision?

What Should You Expect?

A reputable, trustworthy cremation provider will do more for you than you may realize. Their basic services should include:

• Transportation from place of death to our facility
• If necessitated by law, sheltering the remains for the 48 hour waiting period
• Alternative cremation container
• Verification of identity prior to cremation by two licensed staff members
• The cremation process
• Placement of cremated remains in urn
• Filing all necessary paperwork
• Composing obituary and submitting to newspapers

The crematory facility should be clean, and pass regular inspection by the state. All inspection records should be made available to you.

In fact, the facility should be accessible to you for a personal walk-through. If you call a facility, and they decline your request for a tour, then cross them off your list.

The crematory operators should be trained and certified by CANA, the Cremation Association of North America. Operator certification should be prominently displayed for your review.
